[RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE TECH] What tools and labels for a digitally responsible website? 💻
Do you know what digital sobriety is?
It's "the process of moderating one's digital uses and designing more sober digital services."
The @Shift Project in its latest report states that the digital sector's share of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions was 3.5% in 2019. Their report presents several scenarios, some of which are very scary (see link in comments).
⏱ Taking action: to quickly find out if your website pollutes a little, a lot, passionately or madly: enter your website URL on Website Carbon (link in comment 👇🏽)
This site will tell you the Co2 weight of your pages and depending on the traffic of your site, your Co2 consumption, as well as tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint (as in the image) 💪🏽
Attention: measuring the carbon footprint of your website is a simple and fun first step.
The next step is to measure your total CO2 (and other GHG) consumption, both as an individual and as an organisation.
To make these calculations, which are as essential as a blood test when you are tired, there are many calculators and websites, such as those of LFCA.earth, which we use every year to neutralise our carbon footprint, or the one of Zeï, which we use to move towards even greater frugality and which creates a healthy emulation between competitors (links in the comments).
🔍 To go further, here are a few eco-labels for web design to certify the will to reduce the environmental impact of your site:
> The Green Code Lab web eco-design label
The organisation awards the label after several stages. The label is valid for 2 years. It can be used on the home page of your site. There are 3 different levels: bronze, silver and gold.
> The Responsible Digital label (by Agence Lucie)
Several stages: 1) A 2-day training course on Green IT and its integration into a CSR approach 2) The self-assessment and upgrading phase. It is renewable every 18 months
> Greenspector's label
A programme to define a tailor-made internal label with Greenspector experts according to the desired environmental objectives.
> The Green Web Foundation's eco-label
Free and easy to set up, aims to certify that your web hosting uses low-carbon energy.
